This slipover is designed with approx. 3–5 7.5–12.5cm of ease, but you can choose a size that will fit more closely or more oversized. Details given for smallest size, larger sizes in parentheses ( ).

Hip length: Approx. 690 (755, 820, 885, 955, 1010, 1080, 1150) yds 631 (690, 750, 809, 873, 924, 988, 1052)m DK-weight yarn. Shown in stone in Blue Sky Fibers Alpaca Silk, (146 yds 133m each), Color 115 Oyster.

Tunic length: Approx. 910 (990, 1075, 1155, 1240, 1315, 1400, 1490) yds 832 (905, 983, 1056, 1134, 1202, 1280, 1362)m DK-weight yarn. Shown in red in Shibui Cima, (328 yds 299m each) and Shibui Reed, (246 yds 225m each) held together throughout, both in color 115 Brick.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
US 5 (3.75mm) needle, or size to obtain gauge.
US 3 (3.25mm) needle, or two US sizes .5mm smaller than gauge needle.
2 stitch markers.
Darning needle to finish.

GAUGE
22 sts 32 rows = 4 10cm in stockinette stitch on larger needle, after blocking.

KNITTER S NOTES

Swatching for gauge and fabric:

For confidence that your knitted garment will turn out the right size, it is important to swatch your yarn and block it before diving into the project. Your stitch gauge is important for body fit; your row gauge will affect the length. You can also assess whether you like the look and feel of the fabric for this project: Does it have the right drape? Is it too stiff or too limp? Is it too sheer?

We have knitted this slipover at a DK-weight gauge of 22 sts = 4 10cm and 32 rows = 4 10cm. Cast on 33 stitches to knit a swatch that measures about 6 15cm wide; work in St St for 6 15cm; bind off loosely.

Measure unblocked stitch and row gauges; write them down to use as a reference while knitting. Soak swatch for about 20 minutes in tepid water with a little no-rinse wool wash, squeeze water out, roll in a towel to remove more water, and lay flat to dry. When swatch is completely dry, steam press. Allow to ‘rest’ for a day or two—gauge can change after it relaxes. Measure again.

If you have more than 22 stitches in 4 10cm, your gauge is a little tight; try swatching again on larger needle. If you have fewer than 22 sts, your gauge is a little loose; try again on smaller needle.
